Cloud Study, 3″ x 9″, Oil on Arches Oil Paper, 2016
As I work on new ideas for different pieces, wait for current work to dry, or just want to push paint around and study form, I like to do smaller sized oil studies on paper. As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been using Arches Oil Paper of late for a variety of studies, sketches and small works. The paper has been a nice change of pace from working on canvas or panel, as it feels like less of a commitment, encouraging more freedom to try new approaches. A single pad of 9″ x 12″ Arches Oil Paper can be cut into smaller pieces for quick studies on the fly. The above piece was done alla prima in roughly an hour with a limited palette.
