Whenever I find a new product that I really like I have to share. Above is a 3″ x 9″ landscape study in oil on Arches Oil Paper. The paper has the feel and texture of Arches watercolor paper, but it is primed and ready for oil. The beauty of this product is how lightweight and easy it is to work with. As you can see, I taped off my work area in an unusual panoramic format, which is one of the many benefits of working with this paper. Instead of committing to a panel or canvas, and finding myself with limited storage space in my studio, I can do smaller quick studies in whatever dimension I prefer. All you need to do is tape it or mount it to a rigid support. In my case, I taped it to a small drawing board.
Now that the weather is warming up a bit, I’m really looking forward to trying this paper out when I go plein air painting.
